I’m Overbooked.

People seemed to galvanize around these sentiments on my personal facebook page, so I thought I would dive into a more detailed look at THE social network.

For me, Facebook is now far less of a social networking site and much more of some kind of sociological experiment in which you are all failing.

But seriously, how many emotionally wrecked, withdrawn, self conscious people do I know?  Holy shit.

Everyone either has one foot on the ledge, or feels the need to fully detail each and every success they might have. We get it, you’re either insecure and believe its necessary to shove every one of your accomplishments in our face, or, you’re crying for help without realizing it’s not subtle and we all realize you’re dead inside.

Other than that, how’s everybody’s day going? Cool, Great, Yeah.

Some people might label these comments as the words of a person who is bitter, or unaware that they share many of the same traits they so passionately claim to hate.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t be proud of their success. For the most part, I’m facebook “friends” with people who are yet to branch out into the cold, harsh realities of the “real world.”

MTV: We created the "The Real World," and than spent the next decade ruining the actual world.

Seeing the images and words these people choose to represent them in the public eye, is at times, baffling.

We don’t care about your grades, but more importantly, why do YOU feel the need to tout your GPA like a small penised man driving a Hummer.  Are you really insecure to the point that you need validation from people you probably don’t even associate with on a regular basis?

Sure, it’s always nice to hear people shower you with praise. Unfortunately, this is more like a golden shower because the level of respect I have for the intellect and ambition of my peers is essentially nonexistent.

Whenever I’m speaking with someone I’m not tuning out, I ask them a simple question with an impossible answer:

What do you want to do with your life?

Not the cliche, horseshit answer you spout to your relatives during the holidays, this isn’t a fucking entrance exam and none of it will be going on your permanent record.

I simply want to know the extent of this persons dreams, if everything in their life went exactly as they could choose, what would it look like?

It’s difficult to answer because societies norms have been reinforced into our heads to the point where our brains become engulfed in goals and dreams that are available and convenient instead of truly inspiring.

Facebook answers this question better than anybody ever can because facebook is now the resource people use for emotional ventilation.

If you’re so concerned with something so minuscule and irrelevant to the prosperity of our society how could you possibly expect me to even give you the time of day?

That might sound harsh, where the fuck did I get my sense of entitlement from!

That’s simple, facebook, I got my sense of entitlement from monitoring and analyzing the long term effect facebook has had on my brain.  Looking at facebook is like an epiphany, a moment of clarity where you realize, oh my fucking God, my parents were right, I literally can do anything I put my mind to because all of these other people don’t even want to use theirs.

This is your competition.

Of course, there’s always the group of people who provide the same reactive response whenever their emotional and mental insecurities are exposed for all to see.  That of course, is a response of indifference.

Everyone knows, if you don’t care about something than it doesn’t really matter.  Oh yeah, I be a complete asshole on facebook because “WHO CARES,” it’s just facebook.  “WHO CARES” if I look like a giant whore ready to pounce on the nearest genitalia, it’s just silly old facebook! “WHO CARES” if I make some sport of conspiracy driven political rant with no actual facts, it’s just facebook and I’m just telling you “What’s on my mind.”

Hate to break it to you, but none of us care.  At all.

Nobody is listening to your story, they’re just waiting for you to finish so they can tell theirs.  Nobody wants to hear the shitty music you like, but someone else will listen because they can’t wait to show you the shitty song they like.  Nobody cares about the reasons your significant other is either the worst person alive or God’s gift to vagina.

Facebook, and the internet as a whole actually, is being completely ruined by people without intellectual curiosity or motivation to reach for something better.

It should be the most amazing resource of knowledge the world has ever seen, and in a way it’s superior to anything humanity has ever seen.

But, instead of utilizing this tremendous resource which just dropped right into our lap, people take it for granted and use it to complain about someone who “hurt” them, quote lyrics directly related to the person who “hurt” them which you’ll later deny were about anyone in particular and of course to show people just how fucking awesome and cool your life is.

Hey everybody!  Look at me!  I’m doing great in life, can you provide me disingenuous reassurance you’re only providing because you want me to remember how nice you were when I become the rich and powerful star I’m destined to be!

If everyone is fucking dimes, how do all these ugly bitches keep getting pregnant?

If everyone is finding so much success in their life, than how come you’re not writing me a check.  You selfish, greedy bastard!

Perhaps I’ve strayed from my initial point, Meth will do that, but essentially what I’m saying is:

People! You don’t have to show Facebook all of your accomplishments like they’re your middle school progress reports. Act like you’ve been there before, it’s called humility.

That, and I fucking hate the human race.  Yeah, that sums it up quite nice I do believe.
